CODECO OSS Toolkits and Components Demos

Demo CODECO Basic OSS Toolkit-

The CODECO OSS Basic Toolkit presents the Kubernetes CODECO framework and its operation for the deployment and management of an application within a single Kubernetes cluster. Such cluster can be configured on the Edge, Edge to Edge, or Edge-Cloud.

CODECO Metadata Manager Demo 2024

The CODECO MDM component provides data workflow observability to the other CODECO components, treating data as an integral part of the application workload, and integrating data observability perspectives from different categories

CODECO Network Management and NetMA) Demo 2024

NetMA provides the network awareness to CODECO and handles also secure connectivity across Pods. For this purpose, NetMA exposes networking parameters that are relevant to do an optimal workload placement. For the connectivity, NetMA handles the SDN to K8s interaction via the L2S-M open source solution.

CODECO PDLC 2024 demo: Privacy-preservation Decentralised Learning and Context-awareness

PDLC is central to CODECO orchestration, using infrastructure data from ACM (via Prometheus), NetMA, and MDM. It has two main functions: providing an aggregated cost view of a target performance profile for workload placement and estimating system stability using privacy-preserving decentralized learning. PDLC is designed to operate on both K8s master and worker nodes.

CODECO Seamless Workload Migration (K8s scheduler) demo 2024

The CODECO SWM component manages the deployment, monitoring, and migration of application workloads across single and multi-cluster environments. It ensures efficient placement and migration of containerized applications, optimizing for latency, energy, data sensitivity, and QoE based on PDLC-provided data.

Use-cases Technical Demos

CODECO P1 Demo 2024 – Smart Monitoring of the Public Infrastructure

A pilot project in Gรถttingen aims to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety through a road monitoring system using thermal cameras, LiDAR, and other sensors. The data collected at the city periphery and center will be processed at the Edge and visualized publicly. CODECO components will be deployed on Cloud and Edge nodes, with local data storage for future reference and audits, ensuring autonomous processing while remaining interconnected.

CODECO P2 Demo 2024: Vehicular Digital Twin for Safe Urban Mobility

P2 uses the CODECO framework to create a Vehicular Digital Twin for improving Vulnerable Road User (VRU) safety through V2X communication and Computer Vision. By collecting data from V2X Roadside Units and cameras, the system detects dangerous situations and provides alerts. The pilot in Barcelona’s Campus Nord tests this system in a diverse urban environment.

CODECO P3 Demo: MDS across Decentralised Edge-Cloud

P3 focuses on the efficient distribution of media content across multi-domain Edge-Cloud environments by optimizing both connectivity and computational resources. It integrates Media Delivery Systems (MDS) with CODECO and NetMA, using the IETF ALTO protocol for decentralized adaptation. Key aspects include orchestrating virtualized delivery points and obtaining real-time network status for on-demand Edge instantiation.

CODECO P4 Demo 2024: Demand-side Management in Decentralized Grids

The proposed use case focuses on a decentralized active demand response system for building decarbonization, optimizing energy use, integrating renewable sources, and enabling intelligent demand actions. CODECO uses Kubernetes (K8s) to manage resources, ensuring scalability, resilience, and interoperability with IoT systems. Key objectives include energy optimization, renewable integration, and data-driven insights for informed decisions.

CODECO P5 Demo 2024: Enabling Flexible AGV Control in Manufacturing Environments

CODECO enhances AGV control in manufacturing by enabling adaptive, flexible management of larger fleets and diverse transportation tasks. It leverages wireless technologies like 5G and Wi-Fi 6/7 to ensure reliable operation, despite challenges like interference and connectivity issues. CODECO provides adaptive control and fault tolerance to improve efficiency and minimize disruptions.

CODECO P6 Demo 2024: Automated Crownstone Application Deployment for Smart Buildings

CODECO P6 focuses on automating the deployment of smart office and building applications on the Crownstone Platform, supporting both single- and multi-cluster environments. It aims to streamline application management, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and seamless integration with CODECO technologies. Key goals include efficient deployment, multi-cluster support, and future-proof solutions.
